MAKALEI
Designed by renowned architect Vladimir Ossipoff, often regarded as the master of modern Hawaiian architecture, the Diamond Head Home is a timeless example of eco-conscious, site-responsive design. Built into the slope of Diamond Head, the home was thoughtfully oriented to capture the island’s trade winds while framing sweeping ocean views.
Comprised of two separate structures, our approach was rooted in honoring Ossipoff’s original design intent while carefully enhancing the home for contemporary living. At the heart of the main residence is a sunken living room, surrounded by an indoor garden and anchored by a dramatic lava rock wall—an immersive space where vinyl spins on the record player and time slows down.
The dining room centers around a custom-designed table that seamlessly transforms into a poker table by night, blending function, leisure, and thoughtful detail. Throughout the home, sustainability was a guiding principle, with an emphasis on local materials, natural furnishings, and enduring craftsmanship.
The result is a home that fully embraces the Aloha spirit—where indoor and outdoor living flow effortlessly, and architecture, nature, and lifestyle exist in quiet harmony.
